“When American elites feel their first concerns are with the world community abroad rather than with the interests of their own countrymen, there are consequences for American citizens.”
– The Dying Citizen
It’s not a fluke that a country with just four percent of the world’s population now holds nearly 30 percent of the world’s wealth. America has always been and continues to be unique among nations. Most countries don’t have a Constitution or Bill of Rights protecting religion, the right to bear arms, or due process under the law. Nor is free speech a given worldwide. Freedom is a godsend to those who choose it, and a burden for those who prefer security. Now there are groups actively working against American interests. Their goal is to make the world more equitable for the masses. But what they’ll never tell you, is they want to make the masses equally poor.
Modern civilization is a collection of nation-states with varying values, rights, and beliefs. While Western States adopted enlightenment principles that reinvigorated individualism as a defining characteristic, many non-Western Countries remain stuck with antiquated ideas centered on authoritarian and theocratic rule. With half the world’s population still living under some level of tyranny, basic freedoms remain out of reach. The concept of citizenship, a declining value in Western countries, is becoming a mostly American phenomenon. And a necessary element to preserving the distinct qualities that make America free.
In Victor Davis Hanson’s 2021 book, “The Dying Citizen”, Hanson looks at the privileges of citizenship and shows how an elite establishment of academics, the media, and the government are working to sabotage their impact. The loss of these rights, along with the further destruction of our traditions, will gravely affect freedom here and abroad. Hanson details how the shrinking of the middle class, along with large waves of immigration, and the rise of the unelected bureaucracies are all working to lessen American exceptionalism.
With citizenship come special rights and privileges. These include free speech and assembly, voting rights, employment opportunities, eligibility for certain government programs, and other protections under the law. Those merely residing in a country are exempt from most benefits. Attempts to obscure the line between the two have the potential to harm and even threaten the rights of the citizen. With rights also come responsibilities, and once citizenship and residency are deemed the same, the shared values and beliefs that made this country will be weakened.
One of the greatest enemies of citizenship is tribal factions, whose goal is to exacerbate differences and segregate by ethnicity, race, and gender, a deliberate attack on our conception of the melting pot. When we see ourselves as Americans first, we put our different ethnicities, races, and cultures aside. Immigration brought new blood and new ideas to our budding nation. Despite disparate backgrounds, histories, and traditions, most were eager to blend with their native neighbors. Now immigrants are discouraged from joining the great American experiment, opting instead to remain in their ethnic bubbles. Yet, despite growing claims of systemic prejudices, the immigrant tide always flows in one direction. Towards American shores and away from their own despotic nations.
The federal government, albeit limited in the Constitution, is expanding in perverse ways. Power is shifting from elected officials to a growing administrative state of unelected bureaucrats who are unaccountable to American citizens and doling out regulations at a race exceeding legislative laws from Congress. Presidents continue to abuse their roles with unconstitutional executive orders whenever lawmakers fail to give them what they want. Today, Democrats are attempting to change election laws, particularly the Electoral College, to make winning easier. They are also working to end the Senate filibuster, calling it a relic from the days of Jim Crow, despite using it over 300 times themselves, as recently as 2020. Threats of court-packing continue to be floated as a means of replacing the Republican-appointed majority.
Global institutions are calling for a New World Order, a Great Reset as a means to un-westernize the idea of capitalism, individualism, and nationalism, and a way to extend their liberalism globally. Any form of international rule would likely end our Constitution and the safeguards that secure our rights. One of their main aims is to replace the American tradition of equality of opportunity with the progressive lie of equality of outcomes.
These elites erroneously believe that ending the Constitution will end our God-given rights. But our rights did not come from the government. The Constitution merely protects rights that already exist in nature. If the Constitution were to cease today, we would still maintain all these rights. Instead, they want to replace Constitutional rights with universal human rights. Yet, rights that are given by governments or other organizations, can and will be taken away.
America is the world’s last stand. Our Constitution and Bill of Rights are unique in the world. If the last great hope were to slip away, there will be nowhere else to turn.
