Democrats: The Real Threat to Democracy?

“This isn’t hindsight. Everyone saw it happening”.
– Original Sin
In the 1989 movie “Weekend at Bernie's”, two insurance employees pretend their dead boss is still alive, so they can spend a luxurious weekend at a beachfront home. Like the film, Democrats seemed to use Biden’s increasing decline for their own ends, pushing an agenda that may or may not have been at Biden’s direction.
More importantly, perhaps, was Trump’s seemingly existential threat to democracy. Their fixation on January 6, 2021, when Trump continued to question the legitimacy of the 2020 election results, along with Trump's plans to decrease the size and scope of the federal government, while decentralizing power back to both the states and the markets, were all used as proof of their democracy threatened narrative. Thus, by any means necessary became the rallying cry to keep him from office, whether Biden was qualified for the job or not.
In Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson’s 2025 book, “Original Sin”, the authors reveal the biggest elephant in the room as they interview politicians and media figures alike on the state of Joe Biden’s cognitive decline throughout the 2020 campaign and his resulting presidency.
One and done was the promise Biden made when he ran for President in 2020. Vowing to serve only as a bridge to stop a second Trump presidency, many were surprised when, in April 2023, Biden announced his intent to run for a second term, despite approval ratings in the 30s, which never recovered. By the end of June 27, 2024, his devastating debate performance with former President Trump would spell his demise.
Biden’s failing health over the past decade needs little reminder. Everyone saw his decline. From his unintelligible speech, scripted Q and A’s to his awkward shuffle that eventually required special shoes and a switch to the shorter stairs on Air Force One. With condensed speeches, videos with an increasing number of jump cuts, disappearing press conferences, and a 10 am to 4 pm work window, the cover-up eventually became the scandal.
Add to that the bizarre lack of cognitive testing throughout his presidency. Called before Congress in July 2025, White House physician Kevin Conners would plead the Fifth, two months after Biden’s aggressive prostate cancer diagnosis was revealed. Leading many to suggest that the lack of testing was to discourage any lack of finding, and therefore, any disclosure.
Next came the disturbing revelation of the autopen. Biden was a centrist and establishment candidate until progressive politburo members and aides seemingly steered the administration and its policies, all while Biden napped. Cabinet secretaries would question how much Biden knew, since staff quickly began serving as intermediaries between Biden and his cabinet, with secretaries receiving decreasing access over time. Then came a New York Times (NYT) email investigation, which found that while Biden signed off on the standards for clemency, he did not individually approve each name. Instead, Biden’s Chief of Staff approved late pardons while claims swirled that staffers were taking payoffs in exchange for autopen pardons.
A classified document scandal would end without charges, due to Biden’s feebleness to stand trial.
Yet, with Biden determined to be the Democrats' best shot in 2024, amid concerns that Harris was not up to the job, Democrats chose staying in power over an open and competitive primary.
In fact, the Democrats repeatedly suspended democracy to save democracy. The 2024 Democratic primary process was nonexistent, with Biden’s only challengers, Dean Phillips and RFK, Jr., repeatedly left off the ballot, refused debates, and generally ignored by Democrats and the media alike. When Biden finally ended his candidacy in July 2024, a Biden endorsement would secure Kamala Harris all the delegates within a day, ensuring no challenges to her coronation. Ironically, selecting Harris for her DEI qualities would also ensure her loss. Many also recall the primary in 2016, when superdelegates were used to override the will of the people when Bernie Sanders came too close for comfort.
Democrats and their media allies went through a lot of trouble to cover up a shadow presidency in their quest to save democracy. Yet, by June 2025, when a Senate Judiciary Committee began its investigation of the autopen scheme, ABC, CBS, and PBS were back to their old way by completely ignoring it. NBC gave just 34 seconds of airtime to the growing scandal. It seems the cover-up machine was already back in full swing.
