“Antifa’s mission is not to fight fascism, and neither is BLM’s mission to fight for black lives. Both movements are intent on pushing a left-wing revolutionary agenda while sugarcoating it with statements palatable to ordinary Americans.” – Behind the Black Mask
Cities burned in the aftermath of George Floyd's demise in Minneapolis. This is undeniable now that we’ve had time to tally the appalling half-billion dollars in damages. Many, in fact, still remember when TV reporters feverishly worked to convince us of peaceful protests, even as we watched burning effigies smoldering in the background. Now, the deceivers are back at it again. As violence mounts, Presidential wannabe Joe Biden has said that “Antifa is an idea, not an organization”, while US Democrat Representative, Jerry Nadler, called Antifa violence in Portland, “a myth”. I guess it's time to ask ourselves, “Who are you gonna believe, me or your lying eyes”?
Antifascist groups like Antifa can be traced back to 1920s Italy and 1930s Germany, seemingly in response to Mussolini and Hitler. Yet, many of these early dissenters were often tied to communism and simply didn’t like the competition from their socialist opponents. Antifa in America reemerged following the election of Donald Trump and the revival of Republicanism. They too, returned to the battlefield, not to overthrow imaginary authoritarianism, but to fight conservative politics. As you will soon see, Antifa is antifascist in name only. Instead, it is a disguise to cover up their real beliefs which are largely anti-American, anti-capitalist, and anti-free speech.
Ironically, Antifa uses fascism to fight fascism. They oppose anyone who disagrees with their left-wing propaganda, demanding conformity with their beliefs. They are a pro-violence, pro-aggression organization that regularly interjects their mayhem into peaceful gatherings. While their movement has no ideological foundation, it is highly political, leaderless, and less coordinated than people believe. Although there are attempts to corral disparate groups under one banner, each antifascist faction operates independently of one another. Antifa’s danger to society is that they are no longer a fringe movement and are increasingly supported by the Democrat Party and mainstream media.
Young people are easily drawn to Antifa’s anti-racist, anti-bigoted facade. Many early supporters join as a form of civil disobedience, unable to see the big picture. Unfortunately, what starts as an innocent empathy for the marginalized, ends in full-blown violence. College campuses are the main breeding ground for youthful left-wing advocacy. Marxist and leftist professors serve as mentors in higher education’s radicalization of these naïve students. Once they have been sufficiently indoctrinated, these automatons then act to deny free speech and freedom of thought to anyone who dares express a different opinion.
The Antifa movement regularly unleashes its most insidious damage in urban, minority, and immigrant communities. For the few who are arrested, they are quickly bailed by fundraisers from distant celebrities and politicians, and then quietly returned to the streets to do even more damage. After rioting, looting, and burning of neighborhoods, big box stores often decide not to rebuild, leaving the poorest communities without convenient resources. In Minneapolis, following the George Floyd death, miles of business were looted, and burned; many shuttered for good. In the end, thousands of private business owners, employees, and citizens were left without jobs, basic services, and resources. Antifa, BLM, celebrities, and legislators are all complicit in the destruction of these cities.
In Gabriel Nadales' 2020 book, “Behind the Black Mask”, Nadales describes his personal experience as an Antifa protester. He details how Spanish media and TV with their anti-American bias, along with left-wing education that promotes victimhood, lured him to the Antifa movement. Nadales reveals the tactics Antifa employs to create fear and unrest. He illustrates over and over Antifa’s insensitivity to property and even life. Nadales ends by calling for Antifa to be included as a domestic terrorist organization in America.
Antifa’s problem doesn’t lie in their misguided positions, but their propensity for violence. It’s time to confront the source of the agitation and demand reform. Democrats must acknowledge and then be held accountable for their support of such groups. We must turn off our TVs to a mainstream media complicit in misinforming their audiences. Universities and colleges that continue to stifle free speech and produce ignorant and docile students, should be threatened with the ending of state and federal funding. A return to vigorous debate over our differences, from a position of substance, must replace personal attacks and ad hominem slurs. And beyond all else, we must keep speaking the truth.
