“Their blind arrogant expectation is that their views deserve to be taken seriously merely because they are famous.” – Shut Up & Sing
It seems the elites are at it again. Isn’t it enough that we can no longer enjoy watching a Hollywood awards ceremony without being brow-beaten by a hysterical actress who thinks she’s an expert on all things politics? Ditto, to the late-night talk show hosts who, since Trump’s arrival, seem to cry more than tell jokes. Who wants to watch grown men slobber? Or try to attend a music concert and be forced to endure a me-too tirade from a pop tart in a tight leotard? For some odd reason, these privileged fools seem to think that people in flyover country are too stupid to comprehend political and social issues without their wise counsel.
And did they learn nothing from the Dixie Chicks, who famously dissed President George Bush in 2003 while performing in a London concert? Apparently not. In the first recorded case of cancel culture, the Chicks were sent packing. Yet, history repeats itself. Taylor Swift is back for another shot, with her own set of facts in an attempt to defeat President Trump. But this isn’t Swift’s first foray into politics. In the 2018 mid-term election, Swift took her first swing at trying to sway an election when she endorsed Phil Bredesen over Marsha Blackburn in the Tennessee Senate election. Long story short: Blackburn won; Swift lost.
Surely, this time her fame and fortune will turn the tide and force Trump out of office. All she needs to do is SPEAK and the country will come round to her. So, in May 2020, Swift again went to social media with the typical liberal “white supremacy” and “racist” narrative against Trump before vowing: “We will vote you out in November”. No mind that the accusations were false, her ego can withstand even the biggest lies that pass her lips.
This is not to say that Swift, or any other celebrity, doesn’t have the right to speak openly about their political beliefs. The problem is their positions are always full of hypocrisy. Oh, to be schooled on the environment by a private jet-loving elite as they fly from one multi-million-dollar home to another. Or to hear their impassioned calls for socialist policies when they sport a net worth of hundreds of millions of dollars obtained by CAPITALISM! What is good for me, is not good for thee. It’s funny how they always wait until the money is in the bank before opposing the very system that enriched them.
And then we have the special case of Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick’s only sin was using company time to bait and switch the sports fans, who thought they had arrived to watch a football game. Instead, he decided to use a captive football audience to make a personal political statement. By doing so, he dragged the sports world into the cesspool of ignorant unsolicited political opinion. The problem should have been obvious. There’s a reason store clerks don’t wear MAGA hats. And waitresses don’t hand out political tracts. Most businesses know better. The smart ones understand that their customer base is considerably diverse with a variety of political views. If businesses start picking sides, they alienate half of their prospects. And businesses are nothing without their customers. Yet, somehow, the entertainment industry thinks they can play by a different set of rules. Kaepernick and his pals can social justice warrior their faces off when they are on their own time. Just don’t disrespect your fan’s dime. There is a lot of competing interest for their time and money.
In Laura Ingraham’s 2003 book, “Shut Up and Sing”, Ingraham reveals the disdain that American elites have for their “lesser” Americans. These out-of-touch A-listers come primarily from politics, media, academia, Hollywood, big business, and international organizations. Forgetting their humble beginnings and anxious to win the approval of their superiors, they quickly develop contempt for American values and American institutions, particularly religion. Their tireless effort to rework America into the image of Europe is always at their benefit and our expense. They might play to the coasts and ignore the middle, but they do so at their own peril.
For the hillbillies and rednecks they hate so much, might just have the last laugh. As movie sales slump and TV ratings hit all-time lows, the critical mass has enormous power to make or break tomorrow’s stars. With that in mind, I think there is something we can all agree on…
SHUT UP AND PLAY! SHUT UP AND ACT! SHUT UP AND SING!!!
