“Strong men are not toxic. If they go away, evil men take their place, and weak men offer no resistance.” – The War on Men
In G. Michael Hopf's novel, “Those Who Remain,” the well-known adage, “hard times create strong men; strong men create good times; good times create weak men; and weak men create hard times” first appeared. Another societal cycle, known as the fourth turning, also theorizes how history repeats four, twenty-year phases defined as the high, the awakening, the unraveling, and the crisis. That is, good times, come and go, as men weaken under the excess of prosperity.
Yet despite cyclical theories, today’s society seems content to undermine strong men. Elites who want to remake society in their own image champion the inverse of nature, when advocating for girls over boys for everything from business, education, politics, and sexuality. Alpha men, instead, are demonized as toxic, dangerous, and destructive, with the ruling class favoring soft, emotional soy boys. Societies, families, women, and children all suffer when men are weak, from the loss of natural patriarchs, fathers, and overall providers.
In Owen Strachan’s 2023 book, “The War on Men”, Strachan reveals the struggles of men following the feminization of culture, which resulted in young boys being medicated for their behavior, young men dropping from the labor force, and a lowering of sperm counts, grip strength, and testosterone, all while men lost their traditional societal roles as heads of households.
But the rise of feminism meant to elevate women to their rightful standing, came at the expense of men. Using the guise of male toxicity as a corrupting force, its results have been diminishing manhood replaced with effeminacy and androgyny: the ensuing arrested development brought delayed marriage and children, an abnormal regression of expected norms. By replacing women with porn, and families with friends, the proper maturation necessary for a thriving society was lost.
Unfortunately, the vacuum left by diminishing strong men is being filled with less desirable alternatives: soft men who lack masculine traits, lost men who disappear through abandonment, exaggerated men who live for themselves, and angry men who use their strength for evil. Only strong men have eluded the cultural destruction of men and refuse to feel shame for their natural masculinity. A modern version of the 1970s Marlboro Man is missing, shown in cigarette ads as a rugged, heroic cowboy. Any resurgence of public manhood would require a return to traditional masculinity.
Yet, manhood is written in men’s DNA—in the science of testosterone, by God’s design. While physical differences are obvious, aggressiveness and risk-taking are also natural outcomes. As such, men are built to shoulder responsibility and manage difficult work. Socially, men are warriors, with different instincts, interests, and needs.
Strong and resilient, marriage and fatherhood once sought to tame men of their natural impulses. No longer counseled in the ways of the Bible, men lack the role models that once nurtured boys to grow into men. As a result, men no longer accept the burden of leading their families as spiritual role models. Statistics show that when Dad goes to church, so goes the rest of the family. If he doesn’t, family faith suffers. Feminism failed by ignoring the biblical treatment of men towards women, as partners to honor, respect, and understand.
Yet, the tide seems to be turning. Politically, men, including Gen-Z men, are gravitating toward Republicans in growing numbers, as demonized men became captivated by an unapologetic Trump. By the summer of 2024, more than a quarter of black men supported Trump according to an NAACP poll. While men lean toward Trump 58 to 37 percent, women are still stubbornly Democrat, lured by the promise of government support through a system of bureaugamy, where women’s needs are increasingly provided by the state, and not by their husbands.
The feminized version of men is not men at all and leads to a more dangerous world without heroes. Restoring men to their natural roles as protectors and providers by revitalizing a strong work ethic, marriage, and children, will once again cycle in a time of prosperity.
