“There is a defect in your culture when your own people can grow up in your midst without gaining an appreciation of the difference between freedom and slavery, between idealism and atheism, between faith and doubt, or between order and chaos...If our culture and system of education is producing materialists, then this is the greatest secret weapon the Communists possess.” – The Naked Communist

As coronavirus deaths in the United States near 200,000, cries of outrage resound against the reigning Trump regime. A contagious disease that started covertly in Communist China has infected nearly every country in the world. Yet, how many of these objectors are the same people advocating for the return to Marxist socialist policies, despite their philosophies’ death toll totaling more than 100 million? Marxism by another name is Communism, Fascism, Socialism, and more recently, Progressivism. In the end, they are all the same. Their ardent admirers still believed it would work, if only in the proper hands. The truth is Karl Marx and his acolytes have been spectacularly wrong about everything. Their legacy is a constant shortage of food, resources, and most destructively, morality.

Karl Marx, affectionately known by his disciples as the Father of Socialism, was born during the Industrial Revolution. Both Marx and his cohort, Friedrich Engels, were highly affected by slum conditions resulting from a necessary shift to city living, brought on by the new era. When Marx died, Lenin and Stalin picked up the mantle. The world that once struggled under monarchies, military rule, and theocracies, now wrestled under the birth pangs of capitalism. Marxism grew as capitalism’s perceived evil, inequality, rewarded success.  All the while, Marxist interventions made everyone equally poor and vastly unequal to the ruling dictators. This led to extreme power in the hands of a few with the perverse authority to manipulate every aspect of life.

While early communism promised peace and prosperity, its journey was anything but. Its agents arrested dissidents, ruled by military occupation, tortured citizens, and committed countless murders. Its path was shorn by the violent overthrow of countries and institutions. First up on its radical to-do list was the rejection of the family; the elimination of private property; and the ousting of God. It was in its moral-free philosophy that abandoned the Christian ethic of right and wrong, where communism found its true spirit.

In W. Cleon Skousen’s 1958 book, “The Naked Communist”, Skousen provides a comprehensive history of Communism by telling the story of its chief theorists, agitators, and sycophants. The book became the prevailing guide for nations and their representatives in recognizing communist ploys and deceptions. Time has not reduced its relevance as communist objectives now operate openly in modern-day progressivism.

A near-century of communist rulers endeavored to wean the world of its capitalist ambitions. It failed in every attempt. Today, the conquest for international control is being led by intergovernmental agencies like the United Nations, seeking global influence by decision-making on a grand scale. We’ve already seen the consolidation of European nations under the European Union, creating a powerful regional bureaucracy while eroding the autonomy of independent nations. The ultimate goal is a one-world government; political globalization by deluxe central planning where all are citizens of the world. University intelligentsia provided the original source of socialist ideology and theory. The desire to remake society in their image is a page stolen from their communist ancestors. The end goal was to create a political aristocracy, run by global elites, and managed by intellectuals.

Domestically, Black Lives Matter (and its Antifa cousins) have also sprung from Marxist roots with their own list of demands. Under the pretense of fighting violence against blacks and racism (real or imagined), its deeper purposes are revealed in a laundry list of progressive ideas that include environmental justice, special rights for women, gays, trans, etc., the maligning of the nuclear family, and the defeat of capitalism. They justify violence to achieve their ends, with looting simply a shortcut to rightful reparations.

Mao Zedong, at the start of the Cultural Revolution in 1966, wrote a letter to his wife that said in part: “Everything under heaven is in utter chaos; the situation is excellent.” This was the beginning of the purging of what was left of capitalism. Creating great disorder was necessary for their reorganization to begin.

We stand at another precipice in time. Violence is being re-deployed to intimidate dissenters and tear down existing structures.  Our choice, now, is between another destructive era of oppressive rule or a return to the Western values of individual rights, free enterprise, and Judeo-Christian morality that made the United States the envy of the world. Whatever the outcome, the future is in our hands.
