“Gender has transformed into a cultlike concept, and public knowledge has been overturned to reflect pleasantries that affirm the feelings and beliefs of particular groups. Scientific research is no longer about exploring new ground, but promoting ideas that make people happy.”
– The End of Gender
Two prominent thinkers, philosopher John Locke and neurologist Sigmund Freud both adopted theories of a tabula rasa in their respective fields. That is, the idea that the mind arrives in the form of a blank slate at birth. Not preloaded with information, but one in which knowledge is accumulated over time from individual experience. Today’s gender activists have developed their own version of a tabula rasa, where babies are born nonbinary, without a predetermined sex or gender, and with the right input, can be crafted to become whatever society chooses. Fortunately, science tells us a different story.
In Dr. Debra Soh’s 2020 book, “The End of Gender”, Soh separates scientific fact from ideological fiction as it relates to biological sex, gender, sexual preference, and gender dysphoria. Truths so scandalous that Dr. Soh felt compelled to leave her position in academia to avoid obvious repercussions. Addressing a series of myths, Dr. Soh provides indisputable data outlining the scientific realities of sex and gender as biological and not socially constructed by society.
As Dr. Soh reveals, there are two biological sexes, male and female. Sex is determined by reproductive cells: sperm (male) and eggs (female). The amount of testosterone in the womb during gestation determines how masculine or feminine a child will be, regardless of their biological sex. This explains why there are masculine women and feminine men. Science also tells us that males and females have different brains that affect our life choices. Women tend to be more sociable, while men are more success driven.
Gender is how we identify based on our biological sex and how we express it through our appearance and actions. Heterosexual and homosexual men and women identify as their biological sex, only their sexual preferences are different. The nonbinary label is mostly a cultural expression for those who don’t feel that they fit in either category or as a political rebellion against existing gender roles.
Social construction theory was first applied culturally to feminism in the 1960s, as proof that women were bred to stay home and submit to men, thus preventing them from obtaining equal rights. Social construct today implies that sex and gender are also defined by culture and outside influences. It pretends that if we nurture a male child well enough, we can give him a doll, and make him a girl. Although gender-neutral parenting may be all the rage, it’s a futile proposition. Like sexual orientation, biological sex, and gender are innate, they are not learned.
Transgenderism is a gender identity issue where a child is born in one biological body but identifies as the opposite. Brain imaging reveals that gender dysphoric children align more with their gender preference than their biological sex. This doesn’t change, however, their biological composition. In 2022, the Tokyo Olympics is set to allow transgender women to compete in women’s sports for the first time, assuming they meet minimum thresholds of testosterone. By doing so, IOC officials are denying science, by suggesting that biological male bodies can be transformed into a female body by hormones or surgery. A recent study in the Journal of Medical Ethics reveals that trans girls (biological men) are born with male physiology and maintain these differences even after the use of testosterone suppressants, giving them an unfair advantage over their biological female counterparts. This has led to a transgender shattering of world records in women’s sports. On the flip side, if we are indeed biologically the same, we would also expect to see transgender men (biological women) dominating male sports. But, of course, we don’t.
When political ideology contradicts science, one must twist themselves into a pretzel to explain how it works in one scenario, but not another. Biological sex and gender as binary makes sense for heterosexuals, homosexuals, and most trans people, but it doesn’t always work for some transgenders and feminists. Therefore, a new woke science committed to social justice has been created in the halls of academia, to deflect the differences and silence all opposition.
The theory of a gender tabula rasa has been disproven. We are, in fact, preloaded with biological realities and preferences in the womb. While we can, and should, support individuals who feel different and are culturally isolated, we must always first support science, the real science. And allow those committed to conducting research, the freedom, and respect, to report their finding without fear of negative consequences to their careers and reputations.
